Bereavement Support
Family support programs are provided through a combination of professional counsellors and trained volunteer peer support workers.
The model of service provided for bereaved families, relatives, friends, and anyone else affected by the sudden and unexpected death of an infant or young child has been developed over many years, initially by SIDS parents in response to families' experiences and wishes. The current combination of professional counselling and trained volunteer peer support provides an excellent service, which is based on both up-to-date theoretical knowledge and the experiential knowledge that comes from shared experience.
Programs include:
- 24-hour crisis intervention outreach support as well as short or long-term support.
- A wide range of specialised familysupport programs for parents, siblings and grandparents, family, friends and others affected (such as work associates).
- Social and education services.
- Limited volunteer peer support may be provided to some parents following early pregnancy loss (miscarriage).
- Supply of hand made coffins and baby clothes for pre-term infants
